![]() I'm joining the Global Day of Action in solidarity for the people of Iran this Saturday, July 25. Nobel Peace Prize laureates, prominent Iranian poets and artists, and many others in more than 60 cities around the world will participate in this unprecedented wave of global citizen activism. Go to united4Iran.org to find the rally in your city and stand up for Iran. I'll also be encouraging rally-goers to sign the international petition asking the government of Iran to release Maziar Bahari, the respected Canadian-Iranian journalist and filmmaker who has been imprisoned since June 21. |

Too bad the media forgot about Iran.
They traded in journalism for Michael Jackson worship,
the 24//7 mini-series.

I went to the one in Boston. Good times. Thanks for posting about this Reza, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.

The media has been shut down and shut out of Iran, for obvious reasons. I still think the days of the fascist regime there are numbered, however, and we should do nothing to give it any support or diplomatic credibility.

These calls of "solidarity" with the "Iranian people" coming from few people who neither represent the Iranian people nor have any sort of legitimacy among the actual Iranian people is nothing more than goold old imperialism a-la-western-liberalism: mission civilizatrice of the French and whiteman's burdern of the British that killed millions of people for the same cause that Reza and co are promoting today.
The US government arrested, imprisoned and tortured in Guantanamo an Al-Jazeera journalist for over 6 years and prevented him from seeing his own child and wife for that long. Other journalists from Al-Jazeera have documented their abuse and arrests in Iraq until Al-Jazeera journalists were banned from Iraq all together (under Paul Bremer). The US government also bombed Al-Jazeera office in Afghanistan and killed another reporter in Iraq.
Where was Reza when a journalist was held and abused in Gitmo for 6 years without a trial?? I saw Reza appearing on HBO with Bill Maher for years without a single statement on that.
Liberals should not have their conscience be fooled with these slogans who hide behind "we are doing this for the Iranian people". It is fine to protest a certain policy of the Iranian government but this "we are with the Iranian people" is a formula for fermenting civil war in Iran.
The Iranian people are capable of protesting their own governments.
Stop this imperialism.
The Middle East, including Iran, is not a play field for policy trials from American "thinkers" who can not be held accountable for their irresponsible plans they devise for all of us without our consent.
Sincerely.
Thank you.
