Andrew C. McCarthy's Willful Blindness is extraordinary. Simply one of the best and most compelling books about the scurrilous efforts by successive administrations to blind ourselves to the Islamist threat. |

I don't know much about Mr. Emerson or the book, but it just smells wrong. Maybe I should read it just to find out what's behind that smell.
OK, so this book purports to explain that those administrations ignored the "Islamic Threat", a bad phrase and very misleading in itself. What I'd like to see is a treatise on why there is a jihad in the first place - that might explain why those administrations ignored the threat. Imagine if in some way those administrations were actually responsible, in part, for causing the jihad in the first place - so a few folks could get rich and powerful at the expense of these Islamists. Imagine if thos Islamists knew about this exploitation and a minority of them decided to stop the exploitation by force if necessary.
Imagine the embarrassment of those administrations if they not only had to admit that there was an "Islamic Threat" but that they were the cause of it and they could easily (well maybe not so easy - remember we are talking about greed here) have reversed the situation by stopping the exploitation.
Doesn't that sound plausible?
